Giving You the World While Giving Back to the World

At Zegrahm, we’ve long believed that travel is the unique elixir that provides us with a better understanding of one another, the wonders of our planet, and the challenges we face on the environmental frontlines.

We recognized early on that how we travel is just as important as why we travel. With that in mind, each expedition is approached from two angles. The operational side looks at environmental and responsible tourism practices—everything from using the lowest pollutant-emitting fuel on the ships we charter and installing environmentally-friendly engines on our Zodiacs to selecting smart seafood to serve in the dining room and encouraging travelers to reduce, reuse, and recycle throughout our expeditions.

The other perspective we take is educational, encouraging greater awareness and understanding of the challenges faced in each region we visit. To that end, school and medical supplies, food staples, sports equipment, and reading glasses are among the donations we make to villagers. Plus, many of our expert leaders and founders are personally involved in different causes and organizations throughout the world, and are able to impart that knowledge through lectures and recaps to our travelers, further enhancing their daily encounters with the local people, wildlife, and environs.

Our Seattle office adheres to sustainable practices, as well. All of our marketing materials are printed on paper that is either recycled and/or sourced from well-managed forests, public transportation to and from work is subsidized by the company, and staff members participate in an annual charity day, among other activities.

In addition, as part of our World of Thanks initiative, Zegrahm makes a sizable donation at the end of each year to an organization doing charitable work in a region we visit, or for a cause we support. This donation is made in the names of our esteemed and loyal travelers, travel advisors, and friends. In 2010, we chose three organizations—Children in the Wilderness, Save Our Seas, and the Henderson Island Restoration Project—to support.
