Jim Delgado

As a historian, curator, maritime archaeologist, researcher, deep-sea diver, television host, museum director, lecturer, and author, Jim has built an incredible foundation of knowledge and experience. Best known publicly as host and archaeologist for the international TV documentary series, The Sea Hunters, he has led or participated in shipwreck expeditions around the world. Working with a good friend who served as an AID advisor during the Vietnam War, Jim helped establish the Asia Maritime Foundation to promote the study and preservation of maritime archaeological sites and nautical lore in the Far East.  They are currently working with the Government of Vietnam to establish a maritime museum in the famous port city of Hoi An. Jim has also published an award-winning account of Khublai Khan’s naval misadventures and the losses in Vietnam, when an invading Mongol fleet was defeated at the Battle of Bach Dang in 1822. Since 2008, Jim has been one of the principals in an ongoing survey and excavation of the Bach Dang Site, close to Haiphong, which he visits regularly.

 
Director of Maritime Heritage for NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, Jim is the author or editor of over 33 books and numerous articles. He is also a Fellow of The Explorers Club and the Royal Geographical Society.
