Jim Wilson

From the town of Cobh, County Cork, Ireland where he lives with his wife Ann and two sons Peter and Barry. Before devoting his working life to birds and wildlife he had a career as a biomedical scientist in Cork University Hospital and then as Pathology IT Administrator for the Cork/Kerry Region. He is a highly respected ornithologist and ecologist with more than 35 years of birding experience in Ireland, Europe, USA, Africa, and the Antarctic. He is a full-time freelance wildlife filmmaker, author, tour guide and broadcaster. His books include An Identification Guide to Irish Whales and Dolphins (2006), Irish Garden Birds (2008) and Shorebirds of Ireland (2009). He has also produced the DVDs Whales and Dolphins of Ireland (2004) and Bats of Ireland (2009). Jim is heavily involved in wildlife conservation in Ireland, and was national chairman of Birdwatch Ireland, Ireland’s equivalent of the Audubon Society and is a director of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group.
