Mayumi Kanamura

Mayumi was born and educated in Hokkaido, Japan’s northern most island. She studied Japanese literature at college and is also interested in film and contemporary culture. She has traveled throughout Europe, South Asia, and New Zealand and enjoys cross-cultural experiences, especially when demonstrating and explaining her own culture to others. Mayumi is a trained reflexologist and interpreter. She has worked in the field in Japan with a range of wildlife photographers, naturalists, and radio producers. Mayumi works often as a co-leader with Mark Brazil introducing her home island and its culture to visitors from around the world, and as cultural expert onboard ships sailing around Japan. Mayumi and Mark live in Ebetsu, Hokkaido where they enjoy the mountains and a wide range of outdoor activities including cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
