Africa Adventure Travel & Expeditions
There are countless ways to pursue your Africa expedition in a land three times the size of North America and with a staggering array of wildlife, archaeology, cultures, and hominid sites to behold. Zegrahm’s preferred modes of Africa adventure travel include small expedition ships, privately-chartered aircraft, and tented safari camps, as you visit the relatively unknown South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, the sensory-laden souks of Morocco, the mountain gorillas of Uganda’s Bwindi National Park, or the expertly preserved archaeological sites of Tunisia. From Zanzibar to South Africa and Cameroon to Senegal, whatever defines your dreams of Africa eco travel becomes a life-changing reality with Zegrahm.
Our Africa adventure tours bring the vastness of the continent ever closer thanks to highly personalized itineraries masterminded by regional experts. Consider a wilderness safari in the company of Lex Hes, one of the world’s finest bush guides (our Botswana safari is one of Zegrahm’s most sought-after Africa adventure tours for good reason). Go birding in the Atlas Mountains with a renowned ornithologist. Meet the legendary Blue Men of the dessert with a Yale University ethno-historian. With innate knowledge of the destination and a strong desire to share their passion for travel with fellow adventurers, our guides promise the ultimate Africa expedition.

Expeditions to Africa
Join us as we visit the true Africa—Botswana—where the landscape has remained relatively unscathed and offers vintage Africa adventure travel. Here we find all the major wildlife: elephants, buffalo, lions, hippos, plains antelopes, leopards, cheetahs, and more. Well over half of Africa’s most endangered carnivore, the wild dog, is here.
Join us for a brand-new expedition that combines the incredible wildlife of Tanzania’s Serengeti region and Rwanda’s lush, mountain forests. During your time in Tanzania, you’ll enjoy stays in two camps—including a mobile, tented camp—to ensure you are as close the awe-inspiring action of the Great Migration as possible, plus seek out the zebras, gazelles, impalas, buffalo, lions, and leopards that frequent the area year round.
A must for nature-lovers, Madagascar adventure travel is ripe with botanicals, birds, and land animals, including the island’s icon—lemurs. The island’s isolation and size (it’s the world’s fourth-largest island) has made for striking biodiversity: 90 percent of all forest flora is endemic and more than half of the 250-plus bird species are found nowhere else.
Tanzania is home to some of the largest concentrations of wildlife on Earth. And, while the Serengeti and Ngorongoro typically come to mind for Tanzania adventure travel, this journey explores the lesser-visited, but equally as impressive parks in the southern part of the country. On this 17-day Eastern Africa tour, you will visit four national parks—Selous, Ruaha, Katavi, and Mahale—in the company of long-time Zegrahm leader and renowned wildlife photographer, Lex Hes.
Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia offer an incredible variety of wildlife, birds, and landscapes. Join expert naturalist Lex Hes and experience some of the most remote and diverse camps in Africa. Search for desert elephants in Damaraland, visit with the Himba people of Namibia, experience the lush Okavango Delta, and search for leopards in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia Expedition Highlights:
Uganda adventure travel is alluring and profound—after all, this is one of Africa’s most biologically diverse countries and home to the amazing mountain gorilla. Our experience here focuses on Uganda’s primates, but delves into the natural wonders of the country from the rainforests of the great Congo Basin to the wetlands of Lake Victoria. During our trekking safari tour, we hope to glimpse lions, leopards, elephants, Cape buffalos, and, of course, the 400-pound knuckle-walking mountain gorillas.
Botswana epitomizes romantic vintage Africa; its plains are home to wildlife that have lured adventurers to the continent for generations: lions, cheetahs, elephants, hippos, buffalos, and leopards. Stay at beautiful, classic tented camps located within expansive reserves and a widely diverse range of habitats—the Kalahari Desert, ancient mopane forests, the Okavango Delta, and rich, green floodplains—teeming with birds and animals for outstanding wildlife viewing and photographic opportunities.
This comprehensive Namibia tour reveals the country’s tremendous diversity of scenery, culture, and wildlife. Traverse Etosha National Park with stops at productive waterholes to view abundant wildlife—zebras, wildebeest, Damara dik-dik, white and black rhinos, and a wealth of bird species, which in turn attracts a host of predators, from cheetahs and lions to hyenas and jackals. On this Namibia expedition, track desert-adapted elephants in Damaraland and visit a Himba village with local guides.
Known as the Rainbow Nation for its rich cultural diversity, South Africa is equally blessed with a variety of contrasting landscapes and some of the highest concentrations of wildlife in all of Africa. Your journey begins in captivating Cape Town; with its myriad endemic flora species and mystical Table Mountain as a backdrop, it’s the perfect place to transition for your ventures into the bush.
The mighty Zambezi River forms the border between southern Zambia and northern Zimbabwe, and supports large populations of African wildlife. In the company of long-time Zegrahm expedition leader, Lex Hes, join us for an extraordinary 17-day adventure. Not only will you stay near this vital life source to view hippos, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, and elephants, but also venture farther afield to Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park for additional game viewing opportunities.
Africa’s “best-kept secret,” Zambia presents myriad opportunities for wildlife viewing, photography, and cultural immersion, especially in the company of renowned Africa safari guide, Lex Hes. During our Zambia expedition, we visit three national parks: Kafue, Lower Zambezi, and South Luangwa. We search by day and night for the intense concentrations of wildlife, some 60 animal species and at least 400 species of birds. We boat the Zambezi River, tracking hippos and crocodiles, a highlight of Zambia adventure travel, then spend peaceful evenings at luxury tented camps.
