Gary Wintz (Expedition Leader)
Gary Wintz graduated cum laude from Duns Scotus College in Michigan with a degree in philosophy. He has spent most of the past 30 years outside the US researching, writing, photographing, and lecturing about distant lands and cultures, and has traveled to over 215 countries and territories. Gary has worked on humanitarian projects throughout Asia and has contributed his expertise to development projects in Ethiopia for UNICEF. In 1981 he taught as a foreign expert at Chengdu University of Science and Technology in Sichuan Province in China.
Larry Goedde
Larry Goedde is Professor of Art History and the Chair of the McIntire Department of Art at the University of Virginia. He has taught in the McIntire Department of Art since 1981, and has served the department as Chair since 1996. A scholar of Baroque art in Europe, his areas of specialization include Northern Baroque art, especially 17th-century Dutch painting, early Netherlandish painting, and Old Master prints.
Ian Tattersall
Ian Tattersall is Curator Emeritus in the Division of Anthropology of the American Museum of Natural History and is also Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at Columbia University. He is an expert on physical anthropology and human evolution, lectures on many educational expeditions throughout the world, and is currently working on a multi-volume project to document the major fossils in the human fossil record.
