Zegrahm Expeditions Unveils Five New African Safaris for 2018-2019

Explore Off-the-Beaten-Track Destinations Such as the Congo, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe

Seattle, WA (January 9, 2018) – Zegrahm Expeditions, the world leader in small-ship cruises and overland adventures, has announced the addition of five new African safaris to its 2018-2019 slate. These exciting tours—which include less frequently visited destinations such as Ethiopia, Republic of the Congo, and Zimbabwe—bring the company’s total roster of African offerings to 16.

Kenya & Tanzania Under Canvas is a 14-day expedition that visits luxury tented camps in remote wilderness areas. Highlights include visits to East Africa’s largest black rhino sanctuary, scouting for apex predators on Tanzania’s Namiri Plains, and staying at a mobile camp that follows vast herds along their Great Migration.

The 13-day Ultimate Kenya tour offers a more in-depth exploration of Kenya, with stays in some of the country’s most exclusive safari camps. In addition to twice-daily game drives, the itinerary includes flightseeing over the Maasai Mara, a visit to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, and an interactive experience with a local Maasai community.

Iconic Africa is a 13-day expedition that explores two legendary safari destinations, the Maasai Mara in Kenya and Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. In Kenya, guests will stay at a remote safari camp, accessible only by boat, next to a watering hole bustling with wildlife activity. Zimbabwe activities include a sunset Zambezi River cruise to Victoria Falls.

Not to be confused with the DRC, Congo-Brazzaville is a burgeoning ecotourism hotspot dominated by rainforest. The 13-day Gorillas of the Congo expedition exploresOdzala-Kokoua National Park, including gorilla and primate treks, river cruises, and hiking treks in search of rare species such as chimpanzees, pygmy hippos, and the ever-elusive bongo.

With nine UNESCO sites and five on the tentative list, Ethiopia offers an incredible array of attractions. The 16-day Ultimate Ethiopia expedition visits many of the best, including Simien Mountains National Park, the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, the ancient castles of Gondar, and wildlife-rich Bale Mountains National Park.

“African safaris are always among our most popular expeditions,” said Zegrahm President Van Perry. “We’re excited to offer our guests an opportunity to explore some of the continent’s up-and-coming ecotourism destinations, as well as a new way to experience the classic safari in Kenya and Tanzania. By limiting each expedition to 12-15 guests, I believe these bucket list adventures will immerse travelers in the best wildlife and cultural interactions Africa has to offer.”
