Zegrahm Offers Opportunity to Swim with Sea Turtles
Seattle, WA (July 23, 2018) – Zegrahm Expeditions, the world leader in small-ship cruising and wildlife adventures, is offering a number of off-the-beaten-path adventures where modern-day explorers can swim with some of the ocean’s most adorable and magnificent marine life—sea turtles. Believed to be some of the earth’s most ancient creatures—some claim they are even older than dinosaurs—sea turtles can be found in almost every ocean basin in tropical regions around the world.
Here are some of opportunities Zegrahm offers to view or swim with these beautiful marine reptiles in their natural habitat:
While visiting the volcanic island of Saba on Zegrahm’s November 25, 2018 Hidden Gems of the Caribbean expedition, divers will explore Saba Marine Park and enjoy its plethora of rich aquatic life. The underwater park’s volcanic pinnacles are encrusted with corals and sponges that are frequented by nurse sharks, parrotfish, barracuda, sharks, stingrays—and green and hawksbill turtles.
Discover the cultural wonders and natural history of India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar on the Bay of Bengal expedition, departing January 20, 2019, and visit the coastal town of Gopalpur, India; this region is home to a popular breeding ground for the olive ridley sea turtle—the smallest of the sea turtles, weighing 85 to 100 pounds.
Snorkel or dive nearly every day with over 1,300 species of fish while exploring the remote islands and atolls of Best of Micronesia, departing March 3, 2019. Not only will this offer outstanding underwater experiences, but it will also offer the opportunity to meet with locals, search for endemic bird species, view historic World War II sites, and stroll beaches that are home to hawksbill and green sea turtle nesting sites.
On Underwater Wonders of Western Australia, departing May 13, 2019, visit Little Turtle Island, an important turtle nesting area. Five species can be found here—green, hawksbill, loggerhead, and leatherback turtles, along with the threatened flatback sea turtle—offering the opportunity to potentially check a number of species off your viewing list in one location.
Set sail from Tahiti to Easter Island on October 10, 2019, and enjoy excellent snorkeling and diving nearly every day. While exploring, watch for loggerhead, hawksbill, olive ridley, and leatherback sea turtles; the largest of the sea turtle species, the enormous leatherback can grow four- to six-feet in length and weigh up to 2,000 pounds.
“Swimming with these magnificent creatures is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Zegrahm President Van Perry. "It is our goal, on every itinerary that we create, to offer guests life-changing moments like this that will leave them with lasting memories and provide a deeper understanding and appreciation for the amazing world that surrounds us.”
