Selecting South Africa My Way as my Insider's Choice can hardly be surprising. After all, I designed the itinerary and will lead this expedition through my native land. My national pride notwithstanding, I have a number of reasons for touting South Africa's virtues as an adventure travel destination.
Saturday, January 14, 2012 - Buenos Aires, Argentina: Don't cry for me, Argentina...as it is with great regret we only had time to quickly meet and pass through your captivating capital of Buenos Aires. Our small group of excited adventurers momentarily added to this autonomous city’s population of about 3 million inhabitants, and just as briefly we had enough time to enjoy its renowned food, wine, and tangos. Though most of us arrived early this morning after long red-eye flights, others in our group arrived much earlier to adjust to local time.
Monday, December 19, 2011 - Chennai (Madras), India: Time to hit the ground running! Arriving into the Chennai Airport, one has no other option than to immediately give in and acclimate to the beautiful organized chaos that is INDIA. We convened at the gorgeous Taj Coromandel Hotel, before embarking on a tour of Chennai that included the National Art Gallery, introducing us to bronze statues of Hindu gods Pavarti, Shiva, Ganish, created in 10AD. From there we visited the colonial Fort St. George Museum, as well as the San Thome Cathedral.
Friday, October 21, 2011 - Santiago, Chile: We gathered in Santiago after long days of traveling for a lovely, outdoor cocktail party on the Hotel W’s top floor. Thursday, July 7, 2011 - Tromsø, Norway / Embark Clipper Adventurer: After our plane touched down in Tromsø from Oslo, we boarded motor coaches and enjoyed a trifecta of destinations. While listening to guides describe highlights of Tromsø along the way, our explorations began with a cable car ride up to Mount Storsteinen (the Big Rock Mountain in English), a Tromsø icon. Rising 421 meters above sea level, we marveled at pristine sunny panoramas of the city below before eating lunch and independently exploring easy trails around the gift shop and terrace.
Thursday, May 5, 2011 - Granada, Spain: Upon arrival in Granada, we were able to take in the sights, walk around town, or simply relax at the beautiful Alhambra Palace Hotel. A welcome dinner with speeches by the staff got everyone excited for the upcoming journey.
Monday, October 4, 2010 - Tahiti, Society Islands, French Polynesia: Samuel Wallis, an English mariner, is credited as the first westerner to see Tahiti, in 1767. The following year the French arrived, led by Louis-Antoine de Bougainville, on his circumnavigation of the globe. Bougainville, in addition to having one of the most popular tropical flowers named after him, wrote extensively about Tahiti and its people. He described a utopian paradise and innocent, beautiful people who epitomized the "noble savage," influencing the philosophy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - Valletta, Malta: After our individual arrivals we made our own way to the comfortable Grand Hotel Excelsior just outside the walls of the city of Valletta situated on the northeastern coast of the island. In the afternoon many of us set out to explore the ancient city while some rested after the long journey to the Mediterranean. In the evening we enjoyed a welcome cocktail party and dinner.
