Thursday, May 5, 2011 - Granada, Spain: Upon arrival in Granada, we were able to take in the sights, walk around town, or simply relax at the beautiful Alhambra Palace Hotel. A welcome dinner with speeches by the staff got everyone excited for the upcoming journey.
Monday, October 4, 2010 - Tahiti, Society Islands, French Polynesia: Samuel Wallis, an English mariner, is credited as the first westerner to see Tahiti, in 1767. The following year the French arrived, led by Louis-Antoine de Bougainville, on his circumnavigation of the globe. Bougainville, in addition to having one of the most popular tropical flowers named after him, wrote extensively about Tahiti and its people. He described a utopian paradise and innocent, beautiful people who epitomized the "noble savage," influencing the philosophy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - Valletta, Malta: After our individual arrivals we made our own way to the comfortable Grand Hotel Excelsior just outside the walls of the city of Valletta situated on the northeastern coast of the island. In the afternoon many of us set out to explore the ancient city while some rested after the long journey to the Mediterranean. In the evening we enjoyed a welcome cocktail party and dinner.
Sunday, January 3, 2010 - Belize City, Belize: Welcome to Belize! As we exited the airport and wound our way through the narrow streets of the older parts of Belize City, our first impression was that of moldering wooden shanties lining the streets. Upon closer inspection it becomes apparent that these merely reflect a tropical existence on a hurricane-prone coast.
