Nonong the Orangutan

A New Home for Nonong

On Zegrahm’s February 2013 Brunei to Bali expedition, guests had the opportunity to tour the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center in Sandakan, Malaysia. While there, they were able to learn about the organization’s mission and meet the resident orangutans, including a very special resident. Nonong is a 12-year-old female orangutan that suffers from cerebral malaria, which paralyzed her left hand and foot. Because of her condition, she will never be able to go back into the wild and will be a permanent resident at the center.

Part of Zegrahm’s visit also included a donation to help complete a new enclosure at the facility for Nonong. The addition of this enclosure will ensure that she has plenty of space to play, while still enabling her to foster relationships with the other orangutans.

We are thrilled to be a part of improving Nonong’s life at Sepilok and look forward to seeing the new enclosure on our next visit.
