This election season, we at Zegrahm vote for a straight ticket to adventure with this informal ballot of top expeditions for 2018. It’s a competitive race, stretching across three continents with a referendum on nature and new cultural experiences.
Here’s a look at our 2018 candidates:
- Sea to Sahara: Cape Verde, Canary Islands & Morocco
Zegrahm cofounder Mike Messick tops the ticket of this new expedition cruise around Africa. A coalition made up of Portuguese villages in Cape Verde, Marrakech’s ancient medina, Saharan sand dunes, and the “witch’s forest” in the Canary Islands.
- Hokkaido: Japan’s Wild Island
Wins the straw vote for visits to UNESCO Geopark Shikotsu-Toya National Park and Rebun Island, aka “Floating Island of Flowers.” Supports an initiative for sampling Sapporo beer and strolling busy asaichis (morning markets).
- Wild Guyana
Appeals to the birdwatching constituency with more than 600 species to spot in the Karanambu alone. Affiliated with the world’s highest single-drop waterfall and a remote eco-lodge owned and operated by indigenous Macushi people.
