Spend a full day exploring Gozo Island, thought by some to be the legendary Calypso’s Isle of Homer’s Odyssey. Board a local ferry for the scenic crossing, then make a stop in Xaghra to see the Ggantija Temples. One of the most important archaeological sites in Malta, this megalithic complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that consists of two temples from the Neolithic era surrounded by a massive wall. Continue to the island’s capital city Rabat—also known as Victoria—for lunch at a local restaurant. After this you will have some free time to explore beautiful Xlendi Bay, a popular spot with locals for swimming and sun bathing. Make a stop for photos of the dramatic, rocky coastline, before returning to the harbor to board the ferry back to Malta. Enjoy dinner and overnight at our hotel.

September 23

Today, discover Malta’s noble heritage, beginning with a drive to Naxxar for a visit to the Palazzo Parisio, a splendid 19th-century palace with beautiful baroque gardens. Next, tour the dazzling San Anton Palace and Gardens, the current residence of the Maltese president. Return to Valletta for a walking tour of Malta’s capital city. Meet the owners of Casa Rocca Piccola for a tour of the 16th-century residence of the 9th Marquis de Piro. This living museum with period furnishings and artwork offers a glimpse into the lives of wealthy Maltese nobility. After lunch there is free time to explore charming Valletta on your own. Return to the hotel this evening and meet with fellow travelers during a welcome reception and dinner.
