Mike Murphy - Mike (also known as Murph) was born on the Isle of Wight and raised just a stone’s throw from what was once largest passenger ship terminal in the world. After a five-year apprenticeship as a marine engineer, Mike embarked on his first voyage and sailed around the world on five consecutive cruises. He then decided to emigrate to Canada and became scuba certified in Vancouver, British Columbia, where his recreational scuba diving unintentionally led him onto a career as a deep-sea commercial diver. He spent the next 11 grueling years on oil rigs, platforms, and dive support vessels in the North Sea and Persian Gulf. Mike then purchased a 60-foot charter vessel and began sailing the inland waters of BC. After five years, he returned to the sea as a cruise director and expedition leader and spent many years sailing the icy waters of Alaska and Antarctica to the emerald seas of the South Pacific and beyond. He has dived in almost every sea, including eight years in both the Arctic and Antarctic, and has led dive trips for Zegrahm for the last 12 years.
